Week 1 (November 5 & 6)
Both teams played hard in the inaugural match of the
Omaha Futsal League. PSV Eindhoven’s Dan Corn was player
of the game with two late goals to seal the victory. Coach
Ryan Kruse said he did an “excellent job of coaching”
while his counterpart Andy Staberg filed a complaint with
the executive board concerning the “arc rule”.
Staberg cited Kruse wanting to play the first half with scoring
allowed from outside the arc, but doing away with the rule
in the second half. “We scored two goals in the first
half that would have counted in the second half” Staberg
said. Unfortunately the executive board is vacationing in
Jamaica and won’t be back for two years. Sorry Staberg.
This was a hard fought battle between two great teams. The
fans were excited to see a great show of fast footwork with
the ball. Both coaches commented on their goalies steller
performance. “Next time they won’t be so lucky”
the Liverpool coach was quoted as saying.
One of the most exciting games of the night; it had the fans
on the edge of their seats. The contest was back and forth
for the entire 40 minutes. Rangers Ellie F. had a hard shot
sail just left of the goal in the final minutes. The Ranger
keeper Madeline had a great save in the second half to preserve
the shutout. Rangers coach Chris Wilson was impressed with
Kristen and her great headers throughout the match. Lyon’s
coach Link was impressed with the speed of the game. “I
felt the competition was good and the fans got a good show.
Hopefully we get them later in the season.”
The last time these two teams met was in 1967 before a huge
crowd in Monte Carlo. Well the names might have changed but
the intensity hasn’t. In the end Waterford United came
out ahead, after leaving all they had on the field. United
coach Kyle Anderson said his players had a great time. “I
was surprised how tired they got on the smaller field.”
Monaco coach Joe White was proud of his team’s performance.
“We gave a spirited effort” coach White said.
Addy Mueller and Lauren Krska scored Monaco’s goals
to try and pull even.
This was another game that was a showcase of well played Futsal.
Valencia had all seven of their players score 1 goal. Juventus
coach McConnell said her girls really enjoyed the game. Many
of players have attended the Omaha Soccer Academy and their
fast footwork skills showed throughout the match. Coach McConnell’s
game ball went to Kaley Hausen who scored two goals. Jaeda
Roth also scored for Juventus.
Schalke 04 proved in week 1 they are a team to reckon with.
FC Barcelona left the field with their heads held high. Their
players were overheard in the stadiums tunnel, “its
one game. We will show up to play next week!”
A South American showdown, this match lived up to its billing.
Fast paced with tremendous hustle by both teams. Boca coach
McVay said both keepers put in a tremendous effort. Coach
Fleming said the game truly reinforces the fundamentals.
Feyenoord put up a great battle with their never say die attitude,
but in the end Charlton Athletic came out the winner. Molly
Burkely and Ashley Fertio both had hat tricks to lead Charlton
in the spirited match.
In this bitter match-up between rivals, Old Trafford Red Devils
defeated Highbury Gunners 3-1 Saturday morning. Max Saferstein-Hanson's
left foot seemed to be the difference in this game. Saferstein-Hansen
scored twice from the top of the arch in the 17th and 25th
minute. Ameer Pinto dropped a bomb on a helpless Gunner goalkeeper
for the third goal in the 32nd minute. The Gunners finally
found the back off the net in the 38th minute when Ryan McVay
scored. Trip Duden provided some great saves in the net for
the Red Devils to preserve the victory. PJ Anderson, who played
goalkeeper for both teams, proved he could be a top goalkeeper
in the league. The coach of the Highbury Gunners stated after
the game "They got lucky and we will be ready for the
re-match in week 8".
It was a classic match-up between two storied clubs. In the
end it was Newcastle who left the stadium victorious. A hard
fought battle between the players and the coaches, there were
no prisoners taken as the intensity rivaled a World Cup final.
Newcastle’s man of the match was Alex Leatherbury. David
Millard took home the honor for Celtic.
This game gave us the comeback of the week. Inter was down
5-2 at halftime, but scored 7 unanswered goals to take home
the victory. The day was filled with players who scored two
goals. Kourtny Frank and Margaret Powers had two goals foe
AC Milan while Sarah Nelson, Logen Watts, Abby Jaeger and
Katie Potter had two apiece for Inter. Abby Jaeger was MVP
of the match adding two assists to her goals.

“Overall, Tottenham (Coaches Team) played impeccable
football. Hannover 96 was a worthy opponent; but in the end,
Tottenham’s incredible fitness, work rate, and defensive
prowess prevailed.”
“An excellent game was played by everyone” Wolfsburg
coach Malmberg was quoted in the after game press conference.
“I saw a lot of great defense by both sides.”
Spencer M had a great all around game for Wolfsburg. “He
scored and played great D” Malmberg said. Juventus put
up a gallant effort. The only team to play two games this
weekend, Coach Patrice was very proud of her team. “They
just need to shoot!!!!” said McConnell. Abby Larsen
led Juventus with 2 goals.
