Week 2 (November 12th & 13th)
On a rainy night in Spain it was a defensive battle
from the start as neither team could break through. Liverpool
definitely came with a tough defensive strategy in the first
half. However, as play continued and the game wore on, the
pressure put on from Real Madrid finally led to some scoring
opportunities and that elusive first goal they were desperately
searching for. Liverpool put up a courageous fight the entire
game, improving as the game went on. Both teams played very
honorably calling fouls very evenly. Real coach Staberg said
after the game "with each coming match, the boys are
preparing by focusing on their individual ball skills and
their organization on the field". Real Madrid is very
excited about traveling to Old Trafford to take on the Red
Devils of Manchester United. Liverpool's coach Shriver was
quoted "we succumbed to the precision combination plays
and passing of Real Madrid in the second half for quite a
well taught futsal lesson!" Liverpool hosts Waterford
United next week.

PSV Eindhoven Goals from Stathis, Chris, Alex (2) and Dan
(2) weren't enough to hold off the strong second-half attack
from the Gunners. Eindhoven answered the Gunners goal for
goal through most of the first half. A flurry of second-half
goals, however, left Eindhoven with no response. 7 Eindhoven
players shared time in the goals, which is much appreciated
by the coaching staff. Coach Keating, filling in for Coach
Kruse was very happy with the boys' play, but felt that athletically
the opposition got the better of them, especially in the area
of speed of play. The fast footwork from the Eindhoven players
though was excellent and despite playing an older team, held
their own and kept it a competitive game. Nice contest! No
referees! No coaching! No sideline yelling! Just playing.
Futsal at its best...
Highbury Goals -
PJ Anderson 4, Marshall Anderson 3, Scott Kleymann 2, Aaron
Carman 1
It was a great battle between these two historic clubs. Highbury
took an early lead with two goals from PJ Anderson and one
from Aaron Carman. PSV Eindhoven didn't let the early lead
bother them and tied the match by halftime. The Gunner's head
coach was not pleased with his teams' first half performance
and let his team know about at halftime. It seemed to work
because the Gunners came out smoking in the second half. PJ
Anderson added two more goals while his twin brother Marshall
added three of his own in the second half. Scott Kleymann
added two more goals for the Gunners for a total of seven
goals in the second half.
The home crowd came out early in Munich for this classic German
- English battle. With a full capacity stadium the fans were
treated to a stellar game from both teams with Tottenham eventually
taking the victory. Scoring for Tottenham were Keating, Staberg,
James Dean, Mike Dean and honestly - we aren't sure who else.
Erica Pheifer and Shannon Stemm scored for Bayern. Highlights
included a halftime keeper switch involving half the Durbin
family. Alex Durbin received the MVP trophy after becoming
the shortest keeper in the history of futsal to post a shutout
while in goal. Tottenham's Ostrand is still taking his medicine
and recovering from getting megged.
Anytime England and Argentina meet you expect a battle. After
a hard fought first half Charlton was able score some late
goals to put the game with River Plate out of reach. The Addicks
were led by Megan, sporting her "Jerry Garcia" boots,
and tallying a hat trick. Brianna added two more, and Molly
had the game winner. Alex provided great support with 2 assists.
The defense made it tough on Los Millionares, who showed great
courage, lots of hustle and some spectacular goal keeping.
However, there was no "hand of god" to help them
on this evening.
No game report submitted by River Plate.
Both of these teams came out of the tunnel and played a very
hard fought game. With Ajax coach Dryden injured while water
skiing in the French Rivera, the Ajax team had to rely on
their many hard years of disciplined training. In the end
their two goals by Mo Dempsy and Shannon Stemm and excellent
goalkeeping from Kelly Kroupa and Valerie Balkovec weren't
enough to defeat the powerful Valencia squad. Valencia's coach
said in the post game news conference "we have been working
hard with their passing and possession and I felt it showed
in this game".
(From the London Times)
"AS Monaco's defense turned away Chelsea's constant
attack time and again in the first half; however, the determination
of Chelsea broke through in the second half with some well
earned goals."

The German newspaper headlines said it best..."Schalke
04 stayed up past their bed times on Friday to win their second
match. No sluggishness from these 8 year olds. Schalke 04
came out quick and had two players, Courtney and Gigi scoring
hat tricks. Taylor finished with two goals. The team is looking
forward to the 11 year olds next week. "The bigger they
are the harder they fall." Feyenoord coach Larson said
"we have a wide range of talent on our team. With a mixed
or weak lineup, we were certainly out matched. When we had
our strongest lineup in the game the score was 2 - 0 our favor.
We are still learning but the kids are having fun."
FC BARCELONA
1 OLYMPIQUE LYON 6
FC Barcelona's girl’s inaugural game against the boys
from France lived up to the week’s pre-game buzz. The
girls played extremely hard to keep pace with the boys. The
score was only 2-1 at halftime. Brook Snow got the only goal
for Barcelona. Barcelona's coach said the game was great.
The second half the boys speed took over and we ended up loosing
7-1. Many of my girls have little soccer experience but played
their hearts out and never gave up. Olympique coach Link said
"There were several good saves from their team which
prevented us from scoring more. We had several good drives
where we got into a one on one situation. Our team had lots
of fun."
A typical rainy day in Scotland brought tons of fast-paced
action for the thousands of screaming fans in this bitter
rivalry. The torrents of shots on goal characterized this
match. The keepers definitely earned their money today said
a Hannover fan leaving the stadium. Many of the Hannover players
got in on the scoring but Brendan McNally was outstanding
on the attack scoring 4 goals in the match.

This week's sportsmanship award goes
to these two teams as no fouls were recorded by either team.
Juventus coach Patrice said "it was a great game with
excellent sportsmanship from both sides. Both teams scored
great goals and each team scored one goal in the upper 90!"
Christie Shaffart scored all 3 goals (hat trick) for Juventus.
She scored one of the goals from defense! Waterford coach
Anderson was quoted after the game saying "we were lucky
to tie the game. The girls were fast and strong. But great
play from Gerrit and a great goal by Jonathan keep us in the
game."
With 9 coaches suspended from last week after they tore their
jersey's off and displayed their "We love Keating"
t-shirts; Tottenham had no chance. Even with 4 players on
loan from Hannover 96, the Spurs couldn't seem to find their
rhythm. Reached at home while serving his suspension, Andy
Staberg warned Newcastle that their re-match would be a decisive
victory for the Spurs.
No game report submitted by Newcastle.
Never in the history of the Red Devils have they lost by such
a score. Reeling from the loss of their coach who was serving
a 1 match suspension for a "too long of hair" infraction;
the Red Devils just couldn't seem to pull the trigger when
it counted. On the other side of the ball Katie Potter spearheaded
a strong Inter Milan attack with five goals. Quick combination
play led to Alexa, Abby and Megan all scoring twice. Ashley
Hick returned to field after a long injury hiatus to score
the final goal.

(Rangers Press Release
from coach Wilson)The game started off with a great deal of action,
I knew that there was no way that my team could keep up the
tempo. The Rangers showed what they are made of by scoring
first and giving the Boca Juniors a reality check. After that
goal the Boca Juniors came down and scored making it a 1-1
tie. It was not to be a repeat of week one for the Rangers
even though they got steady play from their keeper, Madelie
S. and Bridget H. just could not figure out the Boca Juniors.
In the end the Boca boys just proved to be too much for the
Rangers.
(Boca Juniors Press Release from coach Mcvay)
The Boca Junior team played a scrappy and determined Rangers
team in an exciting match-up this past weekend. The Boca Junior
effort was spearheaded by the defensive play of Austin Steele,
Joe Brown and Connor Keim in the net and Andrew McVay and
Sean Doyle playing as sweeper. The defense was stingy in not
allowing a goal in the second half. The Boca Juniors were
strong offensively with goals by Clay Fisher and Russell George,
among others, and multiple assists by Ryan McDermott and Liam
Townley. Coach Pat Doyle, commenting on Townley's first game
wearing the Boca Junior's distinctive green jersey, stated,
"I am excited about this Townley kid signing with our
squad. I'm sure he'll make some definite contributions to
the success of our team." The Boca Juniors expect a tough
match next week against Olympique Lyon.
AC MILAN 8
Vfl WOLFSBURG 4
AC Milan prevailed in this tightly contested match
over a determined Wolfsburg side.
Both sides opened up with scoring twice in the first half.
"A joy for the fans to see this kind of scoring"
said many fans at the break. AC Milan opened the match in
second half scoring six goals. Kourtney, Haley and Margaret
each scored twice in the match. Wolfsburg coach Malmberg stated,
"It was a defensive battle in the first half that opened
up to an offensive flurry by AC Milan in the 2nd half of which
we couldn't match. The boys played hard and didn't let down.
Great job by both teams!"
CRYSTAL PALACE 5
TOTTENHAM 7
The last match of the day; this was a "friendly"
as newly promoted Crystal Palace took on a Tottenham squad
that saw the return of several suspended players. The game
was an offensive show with each side matching the others score.
The game wasn't decided until the end as Tottenham put away
two goals in the final minutes. Crystal Palace looks to be
a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses.
