Week 4 (November 26th & 27th)
(Bundesliga Review for Schalke 04 and River
Plate)
This much anticipated match held at the Arena AufSchalke brought
together two very powerful teams. The Royal Blues came out strong
in their first game of their after Thanksgiving doubleheader. This
was the first time the girls played a boys team and they made sure
the boys knew that girls know how to play the game. Gigi had a goal
and Courtney and Taylor each added two goals for Schalke 04. Both
teams played at an exceptionally high level. Schalke 04 broke open
a 3-2 halftime game with steady offensive pressure. For River Plate,
Logan Gier made numerous difficult saves early in the 2nd half.
Adam Fleming also helped by blocking point blank shots and clearing
balls just prior to going in. In the end, the Royal Blues were too
much with their excellent ball control and aggressive style of play.

The Red Devils finally showed their firepower in the Champions League
on Friday night. Three quick goals in the first 10 minutes put Old
Trafford on cruise control past PSV Eindhoven to a 6-1 score. Eindhoven
finally answered in the 12th minute. The most exciting moments of
the match came minutes before the half-time whistle. Eindhoven's
"big 3" (Lynch, Langdon, and Gorbe) were pounding the
Red Devil defense. Keeper Josh Christensen showed why he was worth
the transfer fee of 5 million by making four saves to keep the momentum
on his team's side. Old Trafford added two more in the 2nd to finish
off the Dutchmen. "This team was on a mission," Old Tafford's
Manager said,"the team put in alot of extra film and practice
this week, they deserve it." The Devils are riding the hot
streaks of Max Hanson-Saferstein, Ameer Pinto, and Jon Grinstead.
All three combined for 5 goals. Ethan Bennett returned from National
Team duties by adding another goal to the firepower. Now it's time
to prepare for a battle against Jueventus, Go Man U

The mighty Rangers as they have become to be known, took the field
Friday night against an inspired Rotterdam club. It appeared early
that their Thanksgiving feast (245 pounds of turkey) had clearly
taken its toll. The Ranger players were not moving to the ball and
hence they were out played in the first half. Feyenoord goals were
scored by Morgan, Elle, Phoebe, Courtney and Micaela. However, in
the second half the Rangers came out with a new sense of urgency.
They were truly battling head to head with the Rotterdam club. If
not for the superior goal tending by Rotterdam's own Madeline and
Elle the Rangers would have had 2 goals. In the end the Rangers
came up short in the goal column but Bridget Hake was heard saying
right after the game "I had fun tonight". And that is
what it is all about!

Both teams came into this match-up with identical 2-1 records. Knowing
the importance of this game, the coach of the Highbury Gunners scheduled
two practices a day for the last six days to be prepared for this
game. Would the Gunners play sluggish or inspired Futsal after all
those practices? Answer: Inspired Futsal!
The Gunners played their best game of the year while defeating Real
Madrid 9-0. Marshall "T. Henry" Anderson completed a hat
trick in the first seven minutes of the game and then added 2 assists
to take home the MVP. After playing pass with Alex "The Squirrel"
Durbin (opposing goalie) for the first ten minutes of the game,
Jonathan "The Sniper" Koch added a hat trick of his own.
Mitchell "Don't call me Will" Ferris found the net twice
while Payton "Call me PJ" Anderson found it once. Josh
"The Wall" Christensen and Trip "The Shield"
Duden each played a flawless half at goalie while not allowing a
goal.
After the game the Real Madrid management was alerted that 8 of
their players were being suspended for missing the FIFA enforced
curfew of 9:00pm the night before. It is also being reported that
the entire Real team has tested positive (including their manager
"Staberg") for the substance Tryptophan. Sources say the
27 turkeys the Real team had for Thanksgiving was probably the cause.
Stay tuned for further details.
(No match information available for Real as they have been training
in Peru this week for their next match against the undefeated Inter
Milan squad)

The second game of Schalke's doubleheader was played against the
boy's team of Olympique Lyon. Unfortunately for the Lyon squad,
half of their team missed the charter flight from France and they
were forced to play with no substitutions. Schalke controlled the
tempo of the game and fatigue set in for the Frenchmen. Six players
scored for Schalke. Lauren, Gigi, Taylor, Louise and Maureen each
scored a goal while Courtney added another 2. It was a well played
match and Schalke rebounded well after the previous weeks loss.
The Olympique players vowed to be at the airport on time next week.

This highly anticipated match between Charlton Athletic and Chelsea
was certainly not a disappointment to anyone as both clubs proved
they were equal to the task. Charlton suffered their first league
defeat in a hard fought, well played game with Chelsea. First half
play was even as both clubs searched for an answer to some tough
defense. Charlton took a 1-0 lead into halftime as Molly converted
on an assist from Kelly. The Chelsea faithful knew they were in
for a tough match and watched their team come out firing in the
second half as the Addicks defense faltered and the Blues scored
3 unanswered goals. The Addicks finally recovered as Ashley was
able to knock in a goal to bring Charlton within one. A furious
final few minutes saw Charlton crank up the pressure only to see
time run out as another shot sailed wide. Charlton's manager said
after the game, "Props to Chelsea for stepping up in the second
half and to Charlton for not giving up." Chelsea manager Shriver
was quoted as saying, "This was a well played game with Charlton's
skill more than compensating for Chelsea's strength and individual
runs, but in the end we prevailed and came away with a lot of respect
for the Charlton Athletics' players.

Liverpool really got its rhythm going in this fourth match of the
season. Liverpool got goals from 3 different players, but it was
a breakout game for Zach Janecek who scored two goals (one left
footed, one right) that really got the Liverpool club management
excited. Liverpool ticket scalpers will make a tidy profit the rest
of the season as demand for tickets will surely soar as the rabid
Liverpool fans will want to see what is next from this talented,
but unpredictable club.

FC BARCELONA 0
BOCA JUNIORS 5
A packed stadium at Camp Nuo Barcelona was
treated to an exciting match between the Boca Juniors and FC Barcelona.
The Boca Juniors were able to pull out another win in this hotly
contested game with Andrew McVay scoring two goals and Clay Fisher,
Russell George and Ryan McDermott each finding the back of the net
for the Jr.'s as well. It was McDermott's first goal of the season
and he was obviously elated as he stripped off his trademark green
jersey and threw it into the small crowd of cheering Boca fans at
this hostile stadium - his enthusiasm not damped in the least upon
receiving a subsequent yellow card for "unsporting behavior."
The defensive play of the Boca's was exceptional with Austin Steele
and Sean Doyle each playing keeper for one half. Austin Steele turned
in his goalie gloves and demonstrated his versatility in playing
as a midfielder the second half of the game. He was instrumental
in a number of offensive plays and did an excellent job of controlling
the ball and distributing it to his teammates. "We have been
focusing a lot this session on speed of play and the need to release
the ball quickly." said Coach Doyle, "Austin really did
a great job of that today and it really worked to our advantage."
FC Barcelona was pleased to use the services of the famous "flying
squirrel" in goal. Unfortunately 7 players were called up for
National Team duties as Spain was taking on Serbia in WQC. Barcelona
has a tough match against Schalke 04 next week, but the entire planet
will be rooting for the upset!!

Inter Milan brought their quick passing and pressure defense to
Delle Alpi stadia, or "Stadium of the Alps", the home
of Juventus. Pressing from the start to go forward Inter capitalized
often from quick counter attacking. Abby Jaeger led Inter with six
goals, but the scoreline featured seven different players. Abby
Larson scored all three goals for Juventus, chalking up her first
futsal hat trick! Juventus got off to a slow start (also due to
over consumption of turkey), but had a much better second half.
Four players really stepped up and played goalie for the team since
the Juventus starting goalie was not at the game. Great job to Kaley,
Christie, Kelley, and Chelsea!
A highly contested and heated match - there were as many tie scores
and lead changes as there were goals. Both teams played hard to
the final whistle with the German's edging the boy's from Ireland
at the end. 245 fans were arrested after the game for their sad
show of sportsmanship. No further details available.

The Mestalla pitch was the setting for Valencia Club de Fútbol
and there challengers from Italia AC Milan. The Italian squad found
themselves down a goal after a slow start. They battled back with
their relentless counter attack style to take a 7-2 halftime lead.
Milan featured a hat trick from Haley Berner and found six different
players also scoring. Defenders Sarah Nelson, Kerry Pivovar and
Jo Jo Braun found their way forward during the match, and each displayed
their attacking skill by scoring. On a side note - Valencia switched
their players that normally play defense and offense just for some
fun and learning and thought they played well.
What a happy day for Newcastle to get Alan Sharer back on the field
again. Bayern Munich was missing their manager (Dryden) who is rumored
to be duct taped to a tree in the southern woods of Nebraska. The
culprit is possibly a flock of birds he was trying to shoot. Newcastle's
new keeper, Nick Gay, kept a clean sheet against the normally powerful
strikers of Munich. The great leadership and passing skills of Alan
Sharer showed as he fed the ball to his #2 man, Alex leatherbury,
who slammed the ball in the back of the net. Young Reed had one
of his best games of the season keeping the midfield tight. Dom,
the young left back from Brazil who the crowd calls "Pele",
had some blinding shots on goal and put the score out of reach for
Munich. Sir Bobby Robson was a very happy man, and said after the
game.." if we play like this next week we will move into second
place and close the gap on the league leaders spurs." It looks
like the December 18th re-match between Newcastle and Tottenham
will be the game of the century!!
The return of the White Pearl (Doug Trenerry) is the
talk of the week. Many thought he was just a myth. "I haven't
seen him play in 13 years" said one Spurs supporter. The legend
took the field to a standing ovation at White Heart Lane. Chills
were going up the crowds' spine watching him direct the defense,
making pin point passes, and scoring the goal heard round the world.
Is the White Pearl back? Let's hope contract negotiations go well.
We all know what the fans want. As far as the game, Tottenham also
had a hat trick from Scott Durbin and goals from Andy Staberg, Mike
Dean, Karl Ostrand, Jenni Boyd, Ryan Kruse, James Dean, Ken Hick
and Jim McVay. James Dean was a monster in the goal for the Spurs.
Hannover 96 put up a good fight - always gaining the respect of
the Spurs.
AJAX 0
CELTIC 6
Riots broke out after Ajax supporters were devastated after
a loss to Glasgow Celtic 6-0. Twenty five fans were arrested for
throwing flairs and Braveheart dvd's onto the pitch. Celtic came
out storming the Ajax defense which could not stop the onslaught
of the Scotts. Ajax played their hearts out, but could not put together
a solid attack against the speed and skill of Celtic squad. Celtic
finally got the monkey off their back as they defeated the once
European Champions - Ajax.
(The Ajax manager was also absent and probably tied to a tree -
might have been a deer)

CRYSTAL PALACE 4 NEWCASTLE 7
Selhurst Park, UK (AP)
The girls of Crystal Palace were ready for the win. They came out
strong and scored two goals within the first three minutes. Newcastle
came back to tie it up 2-2. After a Newcastle own goal the tide
turned and it was all Newcastle. In the second half Crystal Palace
did not have enough energy and spirit to continue their lead. They
ended up losing 4-7 with 3 of Newcastle's goals happening in the
last 5 minutes. (Grebats Ydna, ((figure that one out- try backwards))
the one armed Bulgarian keeper was minding the net in the final
5 min.)
(Newcastle Press)
Brilliant result for the Gordies down in London as Crystal Palace
came out and scored 3 quick goals and left the crowd quiet. When
the half was over, Newcastle came out like a new team. They score
3 fast goals drawing even. The strong midfielder Conner Gordy put
one in the back of the net for Newcastle to put them ahead. In the
last few minutes of the game Newcastle's Leatherbury and Thielen
fired two fantastic goals in the back of the net to put Newcastle
a head 6-4. The London team could not come back and that's how she
ended. Newcastle remains unbeaten for the season in all games played.
