Week 5 (December 3rd & 4th)

Ajax 2 Newcastle 7
This game was a hard fought battle. The home crowd saw their Dutch side give it all they had against an "on-fire" Newcastle squad. It looks like Dec.18th is what we are all waiting for, as the Hotspurs are ready for revenge with Newcastle. Newcastle will have problems with their head coach not being there due to a few Spurs fans having him held for ransom in a London pub. The club has brought in the younger brother Bobby Wright and hope they can punish Tottenham. (Doubt it) There is also a problem with Alan Shaerer and his right knee, but the book makers are giving 5-1 odds on Newcastle. Spurs also report that the great Keating has gone back to South Africa for a game against Spain and might not make it back in time. BBC Reporting...

River Plate 6 Olympique lyon 1
Argentina (UPI)
Logan Gier and Adam Fleming scored two goals each to lead River Plate to its first victory and best game of the year. Steven Hansen also scored his first goal of the session for the South Americans. Olympique was short handed again, with a player having a one game suspension for not obeying his parents and finishing all his homework before game time. With their two aggressive keepers, Jason and Nathan, they were able to keep the score down. Olympique's coach Link said after the game "At the half, with a score of 0-3, I thought that we just might have a chance to make some adjustments and come back. They were just too quick for us. We will get them next time."

Bayern munich 6 celtic 4
It was a very strange night indeed. It began with the German's charter plane landing at what he thought was Newcastle's airstrip. In fact, it wasn't until after the game did the German's realize that they had just beaten Celtic - not Newcastle. Anyway - we'll still call it an upset. With 3 players on loan from Tottenham, Bayern picked up their second win of the Champions League. Good job girls!!

Schalke 04 6 boca Juniors 2
(Royal Blue Website)
Coach Hick had this game highlighted on his calendar. "It is a once in a life time experience to coach against Coach McVay, an idol of mine since...OK last week.

The Boca boys in lime green sherbert jerseys got the first tally, but their excitement was short lived as the Schalke 04 girls turned up the intensity and countered with the next 5 goals. Final score 6 - 2. Courtney scored the hat trick and Summer added two beautiful goals after successful step over moves to beat her defender. Gigi also scocred in a classic Gigi break away. The highlight of the games was the goalie work of Schalke as Boca turned up the pressure in the second half. Michaela deflected a rocket shot and then dove on the ball just before it would have crossed the end line. Keeper Lauren also came up big with a dive across the box to deny another Boca attack.

(Boca Juniors Website)
The Boca Juniors took the field last Friday night confident that they would be able to record another win. As the ghost of Bobby Riggs looked on, the talented and determined girls of Schalke 04 handed the Bocas their first defeat of the session. "I think our players underestimated their speed and toughness." said Coach Doyle, "These girls can really play soccer." Joe Brown tried to keep the match close by scoring both of the Boca goals. And, although the Jr's played tough until the final horn, they could not pull out the victory. "I am looking forward to playing this team again in the tournament." said Brown. "If we go into that game with a different attitude, then it's anybody's game." The Jr's are expected to play tough this coming weekend with a double-header against River Plate and Rotterdam.

liverpool 2 charlton athletic 2
Anfield, UK (AP) (The reporter is a Charlton supporter)
Charlton Athletic knew they had their hands full as they arrived at Anfeld to face England's all- time most successful club, Liverpool. Inspired by the moment, Charlton raced to an early lead as Ashley was able to break free for a score. Not wanting to be shown up at home, the Reds tightened up the defense and started on the attack. By half time the score was knotted at 1-1. The second half proved just as hard fought as Liverpool added another. Spectacular saves by Molly and Alex prevented the score from climbing. As time was running down recently transferred player Grace was able to convert a goal and end the match at 2-2. Although Kelly was not able to use her patented tap, touch, turn move in the match many of the Addicks elevated their game with a special effort to use some fancy footwork and combination passes. The match was well played by both teams.

Highbury gunners 4 vfl wolfsburg 3
(London Times)
The Highbury Gunners lengthen their winning streak to four games after defeating VLF Wolfsburg 4-3 Friday night. Fans got their money worth because this game went down to the final horn. Highbury took an early lead when PJ Anderson found the back of the net twice. Later in the half VLF Wolfsburg tied the game with two goals of their own and went into halftime with the game even. In the second half Jonathan "The Sniper" Koch scored to take the lead back, but it didn't last long because VLF Wolfsburg scored 3 minutes later. With less then 10 minutes remaining in the game, "The Sniper" scored again to take the lead for good. Both teams took numerous shots on goal after Koch's second goal but were all denied by Highbury's Max Willis and the German's goalkeeper.

The Gunners now travels to Italy for two weeks to face both undefeated Milan teams, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

(Wolfsburg Press - Coaches Press Release)
"Another top notch game, where defense and goalkeeping ruled the pitch. This game was high intensity from beginning horn to finishing horn. Quick feet and on target passing gave our team many chances to score but the Gunners goalkeeper was the player of the match. At times I thought our boys were shooting into a brick wall. Well done boys on another superb soccer match."

juventus 6 old trafford 7
With no official game report submitted by either team, we only have the word of the Siberian ice fisherman who said he saw this game played on a snowy field in the great "north". He said it was the greatest (and only) game he has ever seen. "With Old Trafford up by 4, Juventus amazingly came back and took the lead in the second half. Unable to hold on, they surrendered the lead to Old Trafford in the waning moments" so said the old man. This game was moved to Siberia by FIFA due to the fact that the players wanted to eat snow cones at half and this seemed to solve the problem.

CHELSEA 3 WATERFORD UNITED 2
All we can give you is the score.

REAL MADRID 1 INTER MILAN 9
Real Madrid Press Release -
From the beginning, everyone knew Real Madrid was going to have their hands full taking on the undefeated side of Inter Milan. Real Madrid came out strong and did everything they could to slow down Inter's attack, even creating a few early opportunities for themselves as well. As the match went on, Inter's strength, speed and above all their skill was too much for Real to handle. Real's coach was very proud of his boys for playing hard the entire game, not to mention a well earned goal from Landolt. The Real coaching staff was very impressed with Inter's ball control, footskills and movement off of the ball. Real was pleased to play such a quality side that demonstrated so much composure and ability on the ball. Real will have to try to put it back together and get it moving forward again as they play another quality side - AC Milan.

Inter Milan Press Release -
The AC Milan team ventured into the fabled Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid. Milan's confidence was apparent from the beginning against the young Galaticos. Despite an extraordinary first half goalkeeping display by Real's keeper, Milan's tally reached three by halftime. Defender Braun twice found her ventures forward rewarded with goals. The strike force of Potter and Frank found their range in the second half. Scoring from distance on several occasions. The diminutive playmaker, Bosiljevac, carved open the Madrid defense with her precise passes. She completed her day with a goal of her own.

feyenoord rotterdam 1 as monaco 7
On a beautiful day in The Netherlands the squad from Rotterdam put up a great effort as they battled the Italians. Their coach stated after the game, "We were clearly outmatched but continued to play hard throughout the game. Phoebe had a very nice breakaway goal for our only score. Miranda, Elle, Taylor and Lindsee all played well". Riley Maxwell and Jordan Foutch paced AS Monaco with two goals apiece.

psv eindhoven 2 ac milan 7
Fans of PSV welcomed the visitors from Inter Milan, to Philips stadium. Inter appeared anxious, but ready from the opening horn. Early goals from the elusive Berner, help push the advantage to the Italian side, 3-1. The drive to score continued throughout tiempo two, with Jaeger, the master of the art, bringing her full abilities to bear. Der Maestro', Weber, constantly confounded the PSV defense, with her forward forays and defted distribution. PSV's manager was heard after the game commending his players for fighting through to the end. "We have to remember that we have put a hurting on other teams. It's good for us to play hard to the final whistle in a situation like this."

rangers 1 olympique lyon 2
Olympique manager Link said after the game, "Our guest player was the difference. Katie scored both goals with her fancy footwork. Both goals where scored off excellent passes. The team worked well together in moving the ball around. The Rangers had several shots on goal as well but Arthur and Travis were able to get their hands on them just enough to keep them from succeeding.

FC BARCELONA 0 SCHALKE 04 11
(Submitted by an anonymous National Team coach watching this game.)

- Ernest Hemingway
"Courage is grace under pressure."

Congratulations to the continuing courage being shown by the young girls of FC Barcelona. Matched up against a quality side, FC Barcelona really showed great resolve and team spirit as they continued to compete until the final horn.
Especially noted was the outstanding play of FC Barcelona's second half keeper, Cheyenne Janicek. With shot after shot, Cheyenne stood tall and did a wonderful job. Improving as the game went on, Cheyenne's ability to take on any and all shots was very impressive. She and the rest of the Barcelona team's positive attitude and determination definitely got the attention of everyone watching. Way to go Cheyenne and way to go FC Barcelona. Keep working, keep playing and keep having fun!

- Schalke 04 was absent a few players for today's match and had Mackenzie help out and she scored early to help out the team. Lindsay, Maureen, Courtney, Lauren, Taylor also scored for Schalke. The Schalke 04 girls were twirling derbys as they executed 17 step-over moves in the match. Courtney and Lauren were also able to execute a Cryuff move in the match to fake out a Barcelona defender.

CRYSTAL PALACE 4 HANNOVER 96 15
Selhurst Park, UK (AP)
Coming off a big win earlier in the day, Hannover showed no signs up letting up as everyone got into the scoring action against Crystal Palace. Mick Mulhall got his shooting foot squared away as he tucked three shots in a row inside the far post to put this game away early in the second half. Unfortunately he quickly gave those goals back when he finished out the game in goal. The girls from Crystal Palace continue to demonstrate why they were put in the toughest division of the Champions League. Their skill and determination are inspiring to the young girls who stick around to watch their "heroes" play. Good job ladies - keep up the good work.
