Nottingham Forest of the English FA. Cali opened strong with a 3-0
lead at the half with goals by Brendon "Brendonado" Eglseder,
Will "Rapido" Apker, and Jake "Jakeito" Mueller.
Today's goalkeepers, Jack "Kobees" Kobes and Luke "Pacmando"
Pavel stopped several Forest attacks before the floodgates opened
late in the second half. Next week, perennial Argentine powerhouse
Boca Juniors travels to Cali. Coach "Pancho Miguel" Lyncho
is excited about the match up as Juniors play a similar Latin style
which should make for a beautiful game to play and watch.
Coming off a disappointing season which saw Fiorentina finish in
the middle of the table some personal changes were made. Saturday
debuted the new look Fiorentina squad which emerged victorious over
Sheffield United. After a sluggish first half that ended in a 0-0
tie Fiorentina exploded in the second half with 7 goals. Logan Gier
started the scoring off a Patrick Higginson assist. Then the two
exchanged roles as Gier made a great pass up the field finding an
open Higginson for the second goal. Ryan Miller got on the board
not once but twice assisted by Ben Janecek on one of those goals.
Janecek was not to be denied for his own glory though. Janecek netted
two solo goals. The scoring was closed out as Daniel McDonald scored
an unassisted goal late in the half before the final whistle. Manager
Ron Carson said "I was so impressed with my team this morning.
Brett and Carlos played amazing in the goal and we did a great job
of finding the open passing lanes and completing passes while the
player was open." Fiorentina looks to continue their winning
ways in the next fixture against countrymen Lazio.
