Week 3 (Jan. 20th & 21st)

sparta rotterdam 7
Deportivo Cali 0
Sparta-Stadion "Het Kasteel" The Netherlands
Due to FIFA sanctions against the teams for an “undisclosed incident” (some say it was a water balloon fight as they got off their team bus in the first leg match), this game was played in an empty stadium at 3:30am. Fortunately, we have connections with the vending services and received a match report from “the popcorn guy”. He said it was a great match as both teams played quality soccer. He said Deportivo only struggled with the size and speed of the team from Sparta. “Technically, Deportivo is very strong and represented themselves well.” Sparta is still thrilled to have Patrick Wilkening back in the mix. He notched his first goal since his return from injury due to a black bear incident at Mahoney State Park. (Patrick 1 Bear 0) Nathaniel Lippincott and Lukas Greene each had two goals apiece. Joe Dahir and Drew Fitzmorris each tallied for one goal. Sparta mixed it up a bit and played three keepers; Christian Hagan, Trevor Johnson and Patrick Wilkening. They all played “brilliant” while minding the net.

A special thanks to our “popcorn man” for his EARLY morning inside reporting.
