Week 4 (Nov. 17th)Lyon
vs Bayern Munchen
Traveling from their home in Germany, Bayern Munich made
their way south to Stade de Gerlade. DT Houllier welcomed
the challenge the Champions of the Bundesliga would present
to his Lyon side, Champions of Lique 1.
'We approach this game with great excitement, Bayern
are an excellent team with great history,' DT Houllier
said.
"Lyon is ready for challenge, this will be a clash
of titans," he remarked.
As expected when two giants of the game meet, there would
be thunder and lightning. Lyon's Gigi provided the lightning
and Bayern brought the thunder. Bayern were visibly stronger
physically than Lyon, but with quickness and precision
the French side cut through the German side.
"Gigi was splendid. She had her hand or should I
say her foot in all three of our first half goals. As
she scored the first two and assisted on the third to
Boo," said Houllier.
That was enough to give Lyon a one goal lead at halftime.
An early second half goal by Boo increased the lead, but
Bayern soon scored to remain one goal down. As Bayern
pressed for the tying goal, Lyon capitalized with three
of their own in the last five minutes. A blazing left
footed shot from left back Maureen followed a brilliant
pass from Gigi. Gigi finished her hat trick moments later.
The elusive Louise added the final tally of the evening
sneaking a shot into the low corner away.
Lyon was again stout on defense with strong performances
from Grace, Lauren and Lindsay. Nicolette was superb in
goal once again.
Lyon will host Athletcio Madrid in two weeks. Get to
your seat early as it promises to be another thrilling
game.
AS Monaco vs
Dynamo
It was Monaco's first trip to Kiev in the Ukraine, to
play the power of the region Dynamo. Dynamo was ready
to go at the whistle and took an early 2 goal lead as
Monaco totally underestimated the skill and desire of
Dynamo. Jennifer finished a cross from Hannah to cut the
lead in half before intermission. Monaco took control
early in the second half with goals from Kiki(2) and Hannah,
but couldn't hold the lead as the home team netted the
final three goals. It was as hard fought battle by both
sides.
Marseille vs
Gor Mahia
Marseille took the long trip to Kenya to meet Gor Mahia
in Narobi City Stadium. The mighty Gor jumped to an early
lead over travel weary Marseille. Marseille quickly found
their touch as great passing created scoring opportunities.
Breaking out of a scoring slump Erin found the back of
the net 5 times to lead the French side. Hard working
Megan(2) and Alyssa each added goals and also assisted
on others, as did Nichole with 2. Quick transition and
accurate passing paid great dividends in this match, as
Marseille knew they couldn't match the 1v1 skill of Gor
Mahia.
AS Monaco vs
AFC Leapords
The city of Kenya hosted a double header as AS Monaco
was in town to play AFC Leapords in Nyayo Stadium, while
their sister team Marseille was playing Gor Mahia. AS
Monaco, with the benefit of an earlier warm-up match played
very well together in spite of the hostile crowd of 30,00.
It was an offensive showcase as Lauren, Kirsten and Jen
each recorded hat tricks. They were joined on the tally
sheet by Kiki, Ally(2) and Liz(2). The Leopards proved
to be a ferocious opponent forcing Monaco to play at their
absolute best.
