Bayer Leverkusen brought the home fans to their feet in their opening
match victory of the Session 2 Champions League. Christian Hagan
tallied his first hat trick of the season with Nathaniel Lippincott
also scoring 2 goals for Leverkusen. Chase McCann and Kevin Lynch
each added one apiece to finish up the scoring. Drew Fitzmorris
and Quinn Nelson each played a brilliant match in goal holding the
powerful Boca’s to 2 goals. Leverkusen’s manager Ostrand
was also very impressed with the play of Joe Dahir, Patrick Wilkening,
and Daniel Shonka as they provided key offensive and defensive performances.
After the game Ostrand was quoted, “We played well for having
taken some time off for the Holidays. I was very proud of our boy’s
performance. Unfortunately there is no time to let down as we host
Schalke 04 next week. They finished last season 7-1 and have had
us circled on their calendar for months. As far as Boca, I thought
they played very hard. We’ll get to see them again the last
week of the league. We had better be ready.”

(Quote from River Plate manager after game.)
"This was a very physical and competitive game. Lazio converted
early and often on their scoring opportunities. They broke open
a 1-1 tie with three straight goals. Just prior to the first half
break River Plate scored twice to close the gap. After a game-tying
goal by Trevor Goetzinger, both teams pounded at the keepers. Late
in the game, a ball did get behind the River Plate keeper. Just
prior to trickling in, Steven Hansen cleared the ball and saved
the go-ahead goal. Moments later, Chase Ohde broke from the pack
and scored the game winner."
(Quote from Lazio manager at post-match press conference)
"We had an excellent game. Lazio was a head 4-1, 2 goals from
Bryce, 1 from William, and 1 from Erica (you go girl). We could
just not hold the lead. Kyle had a great game; as he has never played
soccer before. Joe and Jesse had some nice shots on goal but the
River Plate keeper was too good. Our defense held tight with Kately,
Jessica and Connor playing their hearts out. An excellent game was
played by everyone. We will get them next time."

The first game after their Championship run
was a difficult one for the Red Devils against Borussia Dortmund.
Old Trafford shot out in front 3-0 lead, but the counter attack
by Dortmund made it 3-2 at the break. The first half was highlighted
by a goal that Mitchell Ferris blasted from the half line that went
through 3 defenders and past a keeper that had no idea it was coming.
The Red Devils came out firing in the 2nd half from goals by Bennett,
Duden, 2 from Watson, and Ameer Pinto who had a defender hanging
on his jersey while he went to goal. The relentless counter attack
from Dortmund, in which Old Trafford had no answer for, made it
interesting until the end. The Devils are on a roll with winning
the last 9 out of 10 games.

Esurk Nayr's PSV group got off to a slow start in the new year in
a much anticipated match full of controversy. "In the off-season,
we made a number of trades with Real Madrid," Nayr began, "and
I think some of our past players unethically disclosed some of our
secrets to Madrid's coach. They seemed a step ahead of us everywhere
on the field, so I am pretty sure they were cheating. We will surely
be filing a protest with UEFA...this isn't over yet!" Meanwhile,
Nayr has is under investigation for allegedly attempting to bribe
several Madrid starters.

RANGER CLUB TIES OPENER
Today the Ranger club took the field against their old nemesis,
Olympique Lyon, to start the second session of Futsal. The Ranger
players appeared ready to play after a short break between league
play. The Ranger team was also sporting two new players whom they
acquired before the trading deadline. These new players are Elizabeth
Sturgeon and Julia Edelstein.
As the game began the Ranger team found themselves playing from
behind once again. This is a position that they have grown accustomed
too. Lyon scored first off a great play in front of the Ranger net
minder. Team Ranger did not quit as they score tying the match at
one a piece.
As the second half began, the Ranger club found themselves down
by one goal, but quickly remedied that as Kirsten Carlson scored
her second of the match. The Ranger fans went wild.
The play was solid and back and forth when suddenly, Julia Edelstein
found herself open in front of the goal, with the ball at her foot.
She briefly hesitated and then took the shot and scored, making
it 3-2 in favor of the Rangers.
Lyon was not finished, as they have done all year they came storming
back and slipped one past Archer who appeared to be screened. The
final horn blew and the match ended in a 3-3 tie. This was reminiscent
of the first game last session where these same two teams gave the
fans their monies worth by playing to a 0-0 tie.
After the match the players were very happy with their performance.
Coach Wilson was heard talking with his players and saying "you
girls played so hard today. You hustled and went after the ball.
You never quit. I am proud of all of you". Blair Archer played
another great game in net, while new players Sturgeon and Edelstein
contributed in a big way. Bridget Hake was always around the ball
and had a chance to win it at the end but the shot went over the
net. Ellie Freeburn and Lindsay Hoag played their usual solid games.
Coach Wilson has given them the week off before next Friday night's
match.
(Olympique Lyon Press Release)
During the off season the team did some reorganization. The team
dropped 3 players and picked up some new players. Sydney was the
first new player to join us this week. She played very well up in
front. We had 2 goals scored by excellent ball handling. Jack and
Danny both drove all the way to the goal to score. The third goal
was scored by Jack. Our Goalies, Travis and Arthur also did a wonderful
job preventing scores. It was a definite back and forth game with
lots of excitement.
San Siro stadium was once again the stage, for the highly entertaining
Milan derby. The fans were treated to an extraordinary display attacking
football. AC Milan struck quickly through the wizardry of Potter.
But their joy was short lived. AC soon found themselves behind,
4-1, as Inter conjured up goals through the magic of Powers and
Kusleika. Each striking for the brace prior to halftime. AC rallied
before the intermission with goals from Potter and Berner. Following
the break Potter and Berner repeated their first half achievements,
to forge ahead of Inter. Inter respond like the champions they are,
tying the score 5-5, through the mercurical Jaeger. Then Potter
fashioned a bit of Hogwarthian sorcery to increase her match tally
to four and AC's to six. With Inter casting caution aside, Pivovar
slipped in late to finalize the AC's victory 7-5.
As the crowd flowed out of the stadium, comments of 'smashing stuff',
thoroughly entertaining', and 'stunning exhibition' were heard from
both sides.
Ajax and Crystal Palace each had a touch game ahead of them in this
epic battle. Both teams had keepers on loan from FSV Mainz 05- both
of whom were amazing!! In the end it was Crystal Palace who came
out on top.

The only spark in the first half was a great goal by rocket man
Hunter. Down 2-1 at half coach K knew he had to come up with some
magic. Going with a complete lineup change that moved PJ to the
front and spider man Zach to the box. The great lineup change worked.
PJ completed the hat-trick, Hunter got another, and Harrison completed
a perfect cross from Grahm. And with great D from DJ, Gerrit, Tim,
and Brandon the comeback was complete.

In a hard fought match, FSV Mainz pulled out the victory 7-6. FSV
jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, but Hannover fought back to tie
it at 4. The teams exchanged goals before FSV scored 2 late goals
to pull ahead. A late goal by Hannover wasn't enough as Mainz left
the pitch victorious.

Anfield Press
Both clubs were really up for this match after coming out of last
week's Euro Cup Tournament with somewhat bruised egos. These proud
teams were ready to "get it on". Before the action got
underway there were several surprising moves (even for these two
unpredictable clubs). Jacob Clatanoff, Chelsea's talented midfielder
and considered one of the premier defenders in the league was loaned
to Liverpool on a one game contract for an undisclosed price; however,
one can be sure it was a substantial sum. Chelsea started newly
acquired David Shriver at keeper which made many Chelsea fans sit
on the edge of their seats for much of the first half. David gave
Chelsea a steady performance and earned the confidence of his teammates
and fans alike. From the start both teams played well, each side
working hard on quick ball movement and building their attacks.
It was very apparent that both clubs learned from the tournament
the importance of fast and efficient ball movement. Chelsea's Cody
found the back of the net first with a beautiful shot off a corner
kick play. Later in the first half, Chelsea struck again on a break
away run from Carson "Freight Train" Collins. Liverpool
got on the board early in the second half with a well earned goal
from Jacob Clatanoff who showed great determination in front of
Chelsea's net to get the score. Liverpool played with intensity
and passion, but was unable to capitalize on several strong runs
from Jefferson Lu and Erik Stanislav; however, the Liverpool coach
was thrilled to see their aggressive play and believes they can
build on this effort. Perhaps the difference in this match was the
play of Scott Jeub, particularly in the first half. Scott, always
a physical presence on the pitch, played with a new found focus
and helped Chelsea with many productive touches and good decisions
at midfield. With both clubs short on players, the starting units
were forced to play the entire game. After the match, many were
surprised that there was little drop off in the quality of play
even in the waning moments of this intense rivalry, which team management
attributes to their players love for this game.

A well organized Mainz club came out strong after flying to Scotland
for their second match on the day. Each player on the German squad
took part in scoring and stellar defense. The men were tired but
anxious to continue the winning streak next week!
