Week 3 (January 28th & 29th)
Stamford Bridge, UK
The Everton boys, after starting 0-2, came out on fire to post a
5-3 victory over Chelsea. Everton was lead by Jordan Allison's career
high two goals to pace the young lads. Also, contributing to Everton's
fire was GK Chase Dixon as he made numerous remarkable saves. Everton
knew they would have to play their "A" game against a
solid opponent like Chelsea. Their GK Adam Shriver is very reliable
for them. This always gives them a good chance for a win. "Do
not celebrate too long" says Everton's Coach. "These two
teams will meet again down the stretch."

A fantastic game for all as the ball never appeared to slow down.
Opportunities galore came for both teams in the first half with
goalkeeping and defense keeping the score in check. The 2nd half
we were able to apply pressure to the Real Madrid's defense but
ultimately our inability to find the back of the net lead to the
one-goal defeat.

London Times -
Ten pounds per ducket was a fair price to see this game. Gunners
took an early lead in the first half when Max Saferstein-Hansen
scored 2 goals in the 8th & 10th minute of the game. Saferstein-Hansen
was the recipient of two beautiful passes from PJ Anderson. Inter
Milan scored the next three goals to take the lead with 10 minute
left in the game. PJ Anderson tied the match 3-3 in the 36th minute
of the game. Gunner’s coach stated that he was happy with
a tie against that powerhouse of a team. Gunner’s GK Max Willis
showed his franchise why he should receive his 1.3 million pound
bonus.

Hannover played a great game, and with the famous "jaq"
out with an ankle injury for Palace the result is seen in the score.
However, both teams played very hard.

Bayern Munchen Press-
Bayern Munchen was looking forward to playing their old nemesis,
Palermo. Arriving a day early they were well rested, but due to
4 starters (Hanson, Dickey, Nelson and Carter) being called up to
their respective National teams they were not at full strength The
first half was a see saw battle, with much of the game working down
the far sideline in a defensive struggle. Bayern Munchen's Taylor
Balm (T-2 to his adoring female fans) had a triple scoring opportunity
in less than 20 seconds, but was denied by Palermo's stingy keeper.
T-2 attempted another strike at the two minute mark. Palermo scored
at the 7 minute mark on a one touch in from the far sideline. Keeper,
Tyler Phillips had a great stop at 17:00. Bayern kept on the pressure
with a Wil Ferris free kick at the 18:00 and a Matt "Goose"
Denton power blast that just missed to finish out the half 1-0,
Palermo. Paul "Pauli" Rauth moved into goal for Bayern
for the second half. A move that was questioned by the Bayern faithful,
but with Michael Carter back playing with the US U-19 National Team
there wasn't much manager, Wilhelm Raute could do. Pauli started
the half by smothering a Palermo breakaway attempt at the top of
the box. The 65,000 Palermo fans caused quite a ruckus and defensive
miscommunication, resulted in a 2-0 lead for Palermo. But shortly
after, Bayern's David "Hoagie" Hoegermeyer took a cross
and finished through the keepers legs for their first goal. Palermo
continued the onslaught of rookie Bayern keeper Pauli, with the
home crowd continuing to aid Palermo, T-2's rocket goal from out
front could only be tipped into the back of the net by Palermo's
stalwart keeper knotting the score at 2. But it was matched by another
Palermo goal making the score 3-2 at 31:00 minute mark. Feeling
that time was running out, Bayern pushed their defense up and got
caught off guard once more, with Palermo's final insurance goal
finishing the game at 33:00. The Palermo fans got what they deserved
and remained on the field to accept autographs from many of the
leagues' favorite players from visiting Bayern Munchen.
Palermo Press-
The game between Palermo and Bayern Munchen was a very hard played,
evenly matched game. Palermos' Saif Shah scored the first two goals
of the game. BM got on the board next to make the game 2-1. Brett
Meyer (Palermo) scored, with a blast from 20 yards out that left
us all in aah! BM fought back to add another goal, but Kyle Chatley
(Palermo) scored the final goal put the game out of reach(4-2).
Palermo put together a very good overall game. Their combination
play and the ability to see the open players produced many opportunities
on goal. Jared Abrahamson(GK) had a great individual effort in goal.
His ability to stop most everything they kicked at him and distribute
quickly to start our transition to the opposing goal proved to be
very beneficial in the outcome of the game.
El Monumental, Argentina
Both teams played a very tough and even scoreless first half. Early
in the second half, Mark Wallace broke through for the go ahead
goal for River Plate. Liverpool then pressed the action causing
three defensive miscues over the next ten minutes of the game, and
turned each of them into goals. River Plate composed itself and
gave tremendous effort getting the game to 3-2. Joey Kim lost a
tooth during the game, but returned without missing his shift. A
true warrior. Although River Plate had a couple of opportunities
to score late, they were unable to and Liverpool hung on for the
win. We look forward to our March 4th rematch with this quality
team.

The Red Devil fans were shocked by the 5-1 defeat Inter Milan laid
on their team at home. Old Trafford coach was quoted after the game
“Our defense didn’t have an answer for their transition
offense.” Ethan Bennett scored the lone goal for Old Trafford
in the second half. Josh Christensen made some terrific saves during
the game, but proved to be not enough. ”We will go back to
the drawing board this week,” coach said. “They (Milan)
exploited all of our weaknesses with their speed of play and we
will learn from this one.”

Wolfsburg Press-
Wolfsburg's manager said after the game, "Due to anemic play
by our team and an inspired Eindhoven team, we were unable to get
into the rhythm of the game. When we did have the ball, our players
where out of position which resulted in multiple men up situations
for the opponents and led to many scores."

"RANGERS LOSE, BUT SHOW IMPROVEMENT!"
The Daily Record
by
Colin Roberts
The Ranger futbal club experienced their first defeat of this short
second season. They had two ties and were playing the Boca Juniors
who are always a tough and very well coached opponent. "Coach
McVay always has his kids ready to play." Rangers Coach Wilson
said. "He is always a gentleman". These two teams are
not strangers to one another. Right from the start of the match
one could tell that the Gers looked like a team on a mission. They
were playing "team" soccer. "That is how you have
to play if you are going to have any chance against McVay's bunch"
Coach Wilson said. As usual the Gers played with a lot of energy,
only this time they appeared to have direction and focus. At the
half, the Boca boys were leading 3-0, but the Gers were not ready
to quit. After a net mind change to begin the second half, the Gers
seemed optimistic. The new keeper, Edelstein was very solid in net.
And Archer showed her athleticism by doing wonders on the field.
Hake and Wilson were their same dependable selves accounting for
both of the Gers goals. Hake had penetrated the zone and took her
patented shot which ended up in the back of the net. Shortly there
after a Boca player was called for a foul inside the Boca zone.
Wilson lofted the ball beautifully into the air over everyone's
heads with the Boca goalie making a play on the shot, but it was
just too high. Carlson, Hoag and Freeburn all played exceptionally
well. In the end the score of 6-2 was not indicative as to how close
this game really was. Hake was the number one player of the game
scoring her third goal of the session. After the game the players
shook hands at midfield and walked off to their respective dressing
rooms. The Gers were holding their heads high because even though
they were on the short end of the score, they knew that they had
made huge steps in becoming a better team. Coach Wilson was quoted
as saying "It is amazing what these young athletes demonstrate
week in and week out. Today they clearly left it all one the field.
I am sure that after I review this game film, I will be as happy
as I am now. Good job girls."

With the last lost to Bayer Leverkusen to motivate the team, OL
came out hard. Arthur quickly scored the first goal in the first
few minutes. The Rover's quickly realized that we were not a team
to trifle with and quickly made some adjustments. The adjustments
managed to foil several more attempts to score. We continued to
press forward and managed to score 3 more goals by the end of the
half. These were scored by Jack(2) and Katie(1). The second half,
the Rovers came out much harder and aggressive. We adjusted and
used this to our advantage and had Katie get to 2 breakaway goals.
Our team played well together, with passing, dribbling, defensive
coverage, and talking. The last goal was scored by Conner. Our keepers
for the game where Conner and Travis.

FSV stormed out to an early 5-1 lead but had to hold off a determined
Arnhem squad as they fought back to make it a 5-4 game at the half.
After a halftime chat with their coach, the German squad came out
strong and picked up their level of the play in the 2nd half. Some
quick transition and combination play allowed FSV to pull away late
and hold off a spirited effort by Vitesse Arnhem. FSV will look
to continue a great 2nd session next week.

With four players serving suspension for breaking the team’s
curfew, Bayer Leverkusen entered this game somewhat apprehensive
of the outcome. Coach Dnartso told them before the game, “We
have no subs and no water – so bring your “A”
game.” The boy’s didn’t disappoint. Quinn and
Chase each had their first hat tricks of the season burying the
ball in the net from all over the arc. Daniel played a suburb first
half in goal. The second half brought Quinn minding the net as the
defensive stars of Patrick, Joe, Daniel and Chase continued the
bombardment – each adding to their season’s goal tally.
To Olympique’s credit, they shored up their defense in the
2nd half and played much better. Dnartso said after the match, “Again,
I was very proud of our team. Playing with no subs actually fired
them up as they played beautiful futsal. Next week will be a real
test for us as we have a double header – the second being
against the powerful Liverpool squad - who are 2 years older than
our boy’s.”
Olympique Press -
With every intention of walking out of the stadium as winners of
the game, the team still walked out with their heads high. There
were several aspects of the game which are not shown by the score.
The score does not show the valiant attempts to block goals by our
Keepers, Arthur and Danny. It does not show how the team picked
up the pace in the second half with their aggressiveness. The rushed
to the ball much better in the second half. It does not show that
we did have many shots on goal. The score may not show it, but it
was a good game played by both teams. This sports writer only wishes
he could see more games like this where the teams play hard all
through the game. Great game and great teams.
Waterford Regional Sports Centre, Ireland
Another come from behind win for the Blues. A hard fought game that
was much closer than the score shows. Marshall got a hat-trick,
Hunter blasted one in off of a defender, PJ put one in the upper
right corner on a break-away, and Harrison added a late goal to
seal the deal. Great play from Gerrit and DJ to shut down Porto
in the 2nd half. Brandon and Tim were awesome in the midfield setting
up play after play to allow us scoring chances. And Zach was on
top of his game only allowing 1 goal. Great team effort.
Porto Futbal News -
Porto suffered a disappointing loss to a great Waterford United
team on Saturday morning. The Porto team struggled to adjust to
W.U.'s strong counter attacks. Although many great shots were taken,
Porto only saw the back of the net 3 times. Great goals were scored
by Abby Larson (2) and Jaeda Roth (1). "Man of the Match"
honors went to Jaeda Roth for her great footskills and her excellent
attack and defense.
Arena auf Schalke, Germany
In a rough and tumble match, Schalke 04 was able to overcome injuries
to several players to win the match. Lazio displayed a lot of power
and literally knocked us flat on several occasions. The girls of
Schalke toughened up and played tough for the victory. Lauren's
coast to coast score was the highlight of the game.

Aston Villa Press -
Aston Villa continues to improve from each week to the next. AV's
coach was quoted as saying, "I'm very pleased with the girls'
progress. The team is starting to get a good understanding of the
game and I believe it's all coming together. I predict a win next
week." Anna Hookham and Emmy Heeney each had three shots on
goal and Alexis Banker scored late in the first half. The defense
was intense and was highlighted by several amazing stops by the
AV goalies.
