Due Date: Monday following weekend's games.
Week 4 (Feb. 4th & 5th)
Camp Nou, Spain
(Ranger Website)
The Ranger football club traveled to Barcelona Spain for a match
on Saturday. They arrived at the stadium ready to play. Archer and
Hoag were left in Glasgow and did not make the trip. That left the
Rangers short two players and without their number one keeper, Archer.
Ranger backup Edelstein had been waiting for her moment and she
got it on Saturday. She played an excellent match stopping several
shots, with the game saver coming late in the match when she took
a blast from a Barcelona player in the mid section. The crowd was
stunned as was the player that took the shot. The Rangers were finally
able to score off of an inbounds play. Defender Lindsey Wilson was
able to loft the ball in the air with the Barcelona keeper mishandling
the ball as it fell into the net. The Rangers scored both of their
goals early in the match. They had several attempts but could not
get the ball past either of Barcelona's keepers. The final score
was 2-1. The Rangers play a double header next Saturday hosting
Aston Villa and then Paris St. Germain.

El Monumental, Argentina
(Press release by River Plate manager)
"River Plate played its best game of the season. This was truly
a team effort with every boy scoring and five goalies contributing
to the shut-out. The boys' constant intensity served them well.
We look to build on this game."
(Press release by Olympique Lyon Manager)
"What can I say; our goal keepers got a good workout. We did
not give up and hustled to the ball through the whole game. They
managed to control the ball much better than we did. We also maintained
our poise which showed a lot of character. I am very proud of the
way the team handled themselves."

Everton Press -
A tough opponent the Everton lads ran across as the team was defeated
5-1on Friday. Some good performances were turned in though with
Jordan Allison scoring in his second consecutive game. Two former
Everton teammates, Tyler Phillips and McKay Young playing for the
opponent turned in excellent performance for their new team; Bayern
Munchen. The Everton team will be back for next week's show down
with a good week of preparation their Coach says... Stay tuned.
Bayern Munchen Sporting News -
Everton coming off a huge win against Chelsea in last weeks fixture
didn't get the result they had hoped for. Bayern looked sharp from
the beginning, and took the home crowd out with McKay "Sneaky"
Young lofting a corner to Andrew "Lefty" Nelson for the
finish. Young was presented with another opportunity but was denied
by a great save by the quick Everton keeper. Will "Zero"
Ferris had a blooper into the back of the net which brought the
score to two for Bayern and nil for Everton. This turned out to
be the game winner. These two goals were followed by some great
saves by both squads venerable keepers. Young had a beautiful pass
to David "Hoagie" Hoegermeyer who finished on a one touch
into the netting. Nelson finished the scoring for the first half
by beating the Everton keeper in a one on one situation, something
a keeper doesn't like to find himself in. The half finished on a
lighter note with Taylor "T-Man" Hanson sprinting down
the sideline trying to control the ball and keep his googles from
bouncing off his face. Everton's keeper was able to stop his shot,
maybe it would've been different if his club would spring for some
contact lenses! Coming out of goal in the second half was Tyler
"Ty-Boe" Phillips to put his mark on the game. He scored
with a screamer from midfield that caught the keeper off guard as
it looped over his head. Ferris stepped up his game in the net for
Bayern after some tense moments in the first few minutes. Bayern's
final "goal" was off a corner kick that was finished by
Paul "Pauli" Rauth and Taylor "T-2" Balm in
a combined effort to get the ball into the back of the net. I say
"goal" because the referee disallowed this goal for some
unforeseen reason said Bayern's Assistant Coach Piks "Skip"
Nosnah. Everton was able to keep the pressure on and finally took
the goose egg of the score board. A well deserved goal for a toughly
fought match. In the final minute of injury time Balm tried to get
his second of the game, but was denied by the stingy Everton keeper
not once, but twice. Next week Bayern will face their arch rival
Real Madrid on their own home pitch.

The fans watched in horror as their home team went down 2-0 at the
half. "What is going on with our beloved team?" was the
question heard at the wiener schnitzel stand at the mid-point. It
is rumored that the half-time speech by managers Dnartso and Ttocnippil
was one for the ages. Hopefully, somebody recorded the famous words.
The second half started with Quinn going upper 90 after receiving
a beautiful pass from Daniel. Seconds later Christian brought the
crowd to their feet as he put one home with his left foot. He was
seen running to his coach pointing at the smoke still coming off
his left shoe. Leverkusen's next goal came from Daniel as he used
3 academy moves on his run down the left wing, finally putting it
away from 10 yards out. Nathaniel followed up with the next two
goals - one with his right foot; to the joy of his teammates who
were promised ice cream if Nathaniel would score with the right.
With time running out Christian once again forced the grounds crew
to replace the net after his shot burned a hole in the upper 90.
Nathaniel rounded out the night on a beautiful pass from Chase that
found its mark as the horn sounded and the home fans began throwing
their "alpine hats" for Lippincott's hat trick. It was
also another week of stellar defense by Patrick and wonderful transition
play by Kevin. Joe continued his dominance in the attacking 1/3
of play and his transition continues to open things up for Leverkusen.
Drew and Quinn also held down the gk responsibilities - leading
the league in goals allowed with only 4.

Italia Sporting News -
It was the giants of Waterford United versus the quick and nibble
team from Palermo in front of a crowd that must have been pushing
50 crazed fans. As the two teams warmed up, you could feel the tension
in the air as the game was about to begin.
The first half was a battle, with both teams going back and forth
with shots on goal. Palermo's, Zach Jetter, broke free in the first
half and sent a blast across the goal that clanged off the far post.
The shot silenced the crowd from Waterford United and drove the
Palermo fans crazy. The first half ended in a 0-0 score. Coach Potter
provided some inspiring words at half, in hopes that the players
would respond.
The encouraging words proved to work in the beginning minutes of
the second half, as Palermo's Grant Riekenberg stunned the WU goal
keeper with a blast that left him frozen in his tracks. The score
was 1-0 with the Palermo faithfuls looking forward to celebrating
a victory, but before they could taste it, the mighty Waterford
team rattled off 3 goals to smother any hopes that the Palermo team
might have.
With the final score, 3-1, the size and strength of the Waterford
team overcame the technical skills of the Palermo team. Coach Potter
stated "The pep talk got them fired up, but it wasn't good
enough. I think I will use Gatorade and treats to try and inspire
them in the future." Palermo fans were still very proud of
their team, as they walked of the field of battle. The game against
Palermo and Waterford United proved to be everything the fans paid
for.
Waterford Press -
A great game for the fans. The first 20 minutes of play was scoreless
thanx to the great defensive work of Gerrit, DJ, and Thomas. Then
in 8th min of the second half Palermo hit a great shot to take a
1-0 lead. That goal woke the blues up, DJ scored in the 10th min
and PJ added a goal with a corner kick with a little help from Palermo.
Then in the 18th min Marshall found the back of the net for a 3-1
win.
Volkswagen Arena, Germany
The men of Real continued their winning success against the powerful
Germans. Alex Durbin led the way with 3 goals and two assists. Ryan
Lynch followed with two goals and "headband" Haily also
finished with two goals for his side. Real continued to dominate
in 1v1 situations on the attacking and defensive side of the ball.
Real's manager said after the game,” we always had an answer
for whatever the German's brought."
Anfield, UK
After their defeat of Lazio, the men of Bayer Leverkusen jumped
on their charter jet and took the field at Anfield vs. the world
famous Liverpool squad. To the surprise of many the Germans took
the early lead and never looked back. Daniel continued his scoring
spree as he one touched a beautiful pass from Chase and buried it
in the back of the net. Kevin tallied the next two scores with his
awesome finishing skills; we are sure taught to him by his world
famous father (who would be taking the pitch later in the day).
Leverkusen's manager Dnartso was quoted, "The constant pressure
and excellent tackling of our team was probably the difference in
the match. Liverpool was bigger and faster, so we knew we had to
play good fundamental defense. I was proud of our transition out
of the back." With 5 min. left in the match Nathaniel scored
on a spectacular break-away - burying the ball in the lower left.
Daniel and Chase combined twice in the final minutes for the final
two scores. Patrick and Joe were once again "rocks" on
defense as their asking price for next season will undoubtedly be
in the 10 million range - but their agents have made known the two
players' firm commitments to anchor the team again next season.
The coaches were also pleased to see Christian and Quinn put on
a World Cup clinic in goal as they preserved the shut-out.
Stadion am Bruchweg, Germany
This game was played as a "friendly" with both teams dividing
their squads and playing for the pure "enjoyment" of the
game. The sportsmanship award for the week goes to both squads and
they put on a spectacular display of futsal.
London Times -
Did the ball go over the line? Did the ball hit the top net in the
final minutes? In the end neither of the disputed goals counted
and the match between Highbury and Inter Milan ended in a tie 3-3.
Highbury's goals were scored by Max Saferstein-Hansen, PJ Anderson,
and Jonathan "The Sniper" Koch.
Highbury now plays Old Trafford on Friday @ 7pm. Old Trafford is
2-0 against Highbury in Futsal but Highbury's coach still believes
he has the better team. Arsene Wenger said "The first meeting
between these two teams was game one in session one and they got
lucky. The second game I wasn't there due to my National team priority.
Write this down, we will not lose to Mrs. Ferguson’s team
again and will remain unbeaten in Session 2.
Inter Press -
- Inter Milan came to Highbury seeking their first win in the London
stadium. Despite an outstanding effort by the depleted Italian squad,
they had to settle for single point. The flu bug had hit Milan side
prior to match. Several players were still suffering the lingering
effects. Without their two leading scorers, Jaeger and Powers, Inter
fought valiantly. The opportunistic Braun scored before the halftime
whistle. Kusleika and McCardle fashioned goals in the second half
to give Inter a 3-2 lead. The Highbury hit back with the tying goal
late in the match. Robert Hoyzer, the match official in from Germany,
disallowed a late game winner for Inter. The entertaining match
ended in a three all draw.
TOTTENHAM
The return of Tottenham was an exciting affair as the world
famous "Lynch" returned to the pitch after a two year
hiatus. Those leaving the stadium said it best. "He was unstoppable!!"
Tottenham's pin-point passing and overall excellent fitness level
was the difference in the match. "The hammer" Durbin led
the way with scoring with at least 4. Staberg had 42 rainbows, Potter
had 6 megs, Dean had 24 "Maradonna's" and Ostrand held
down the goal with his one good leg. "Lynch" took control
of the midfield and led the team with his on the display of un-selfish
play. More Tottenham to come.
Derry City Times -
The boys watched while Tottenhem took the field and laughed at the
"old" guys dragging themselves for a beating. Ryan Kruse
parted some advice before leaving that these old guys have about
10 minutes of play and then things will start to go south. I think
it was Derry City that started to go south after the first 10 minutes
- what seemed to be an interesting game. Once Tottenhem took the
lead afterwards, things started getting ugly for Derry City. Showboat
Andy Staberg, showed no letting down but started toying with Derry
City, after a while, the rest of the "old" guys started
following the same pattern - no matter what Derry City through at
them, the coaches team simply was too much for the and just decided
to have fun and lose with grace.
PORTO
Stamford Bridge, UK
Porto Sporting News -
It was a great showing for Porto, given the early morning game.
The players were shining even though the sun wasn't out yet! A hattrick
was scored by Abby Larson (3), with 4 players adding a goal each:
Ashley Holland, Christie Shaffart, LJ Schenkelberg, and Kaley Hansen.
Awesome goalkeeping was exhibited by Ashley Holland, Alia Khalil,
and Caitlin Parra. "Man of the Match" honors was awarded
to Ashley Holland for her awesome skills on the field and in the
net!
Westfalenstadion, Germany
(PSV Eindhoven Website)
Donning his freshly sculpted mullet, PSV's skipper, Esurk Nayr,
entered Saturday's match full of confidence after his side had shown
great spirit earlier in the week when they bested Vfl Wolfsburg.
Borussia Dortmund showed great spirit, however, and the match turned
into an epic battle. "The match was filled with some very enterprising
attack by both teams," Nayr began. "It was a see-saw battle
for the duration." One thing concerned the PSV head-man though--the
players' footwear seemed to create some problems. "Our boys
have had unending issues trying to keep their shoes tied. In fact,
starting next week, we will require all players to wear boots with
velcro." Hunter G., Sean C., & Chris T. scored some fine
goals for PSV.
The Delle Alpi Stadium in Turin was the site for the Series
A game of the week. The home team Juventus played with great passion
throughout the match. Even after relinquishing the first goal of
the match to the Milanese side, they fought back with great determination.
Abby Larson burst through the Milan defense to score the equalizer
with a thunderous shot. Milan kept their composure and continued
to attack. Their efforts were rewarded with goals by Frank and Potter
(her second of the match) before the intermission. Juventus suffered
an injury to their fine goalkeeper early in the second half. Milan
took advantage of Juventus' misfortune with three goals from the
mercurcial Berner. Soon after Frank scored her second, Potter found
her hat-trick. Tschida came on late to finish the scoring with her
first goal of the second season.
Juventus Press -
Juventus was off to an incredible start in this exciting game! After
an injury sidelined one goalie, the team seemed to lose a bit of
momentum and the rest belonged to AC Milan. Abby Larson scored the
team's lone goal, but it was a rocket! Ashley Holland played a great
first half in the goal, but received a ball to the nose and had
to come out to tend to the injury. "Man of the Match"
honors went to Jaeda Roth for her excellent attacking and defensive
skills. She blocked over 6 shots on her own and showed great leadership
on the field.
Vitesse ran up a 6 - 0 lead and in a matter of minutes
into the second half, Crystal Palace rallied with convincing quick
4 goals of their own. They created opportunities for themselves
by capitalizing on several GK mistakes. Needless to say, Vitesse
learned a valuable lesson not to let your guard down when quality
teams, like Crystal Palace, can come back and almost overtake you.
Good job to both teams.
- AC Milan came into the hallowed grounds of Old Trafford
with some trepidation. The Italian squad had struggled to score
against English teams as of late, and on this day found their squad
depleted. The AC Milan coach sought help through the diminutive
international Bosiljevac. Her inclusion turned out to be a stroke
of genius. A fiercely contested first half left fans on the edge
of their seats. Both goalkeepers were brilliant in defense of the
nets. The thrust and parry continued until the brilliance of Bosiljevac
brought the first tally to Milan. Milan continued to battle staunchly
against the determined home side. Milan's pressure was rewarded
when Frank and Bosiljevac both capitalized off corner kicks to increase
the lead to three-nil. Yet, the lads from Old Trafford would not
go quietly into the night. They fought back fiercely and created
a wonderful chance that resulted in a well taken goal. The final
tally read 3-1 to AC Milan.
